World of Warcraft Item Upgrades

Upgrades to items can be used to improve the stats of a particular item. Based on the type of upgrade, it can increase the rarity of an item, or its Mark Level and boost additional stats.

Each item has a track for upgrading it. Each upgrade increases the cost of the next one by a set amount.

Item Level

When an item gets upgraded, its basic stats are increased in value. This is the sum of all the upgraded advantages (attack, magic attack and defense). Upgrades can be expensive, dependent on who you employ and what you do. This is due to the number of perks that must be modified to upgrade an item.

The level of an Best item upgrader is a widely used measurement of power and can be seen on all tooltips of items. It also serves to limit how much PvP gear players can use, since PvP is limited at a lower level. The average level of the item can be found on the character sheet.

Using the item level can help players evaluate the strength of equipment when they decide to buy or sell. It's a useful gauge of an item's worth and the amount of damage it's capable of causing. Comparing items from the inventory of a vendor is possible using the item's level.

The level of the item can be seen by pressing the ALT key on a PC or using the left stick (L3) on XB1 and PS4. This will display the item's full description, including ilvl. You can also find it by hovering over an item and typing /itemlevel in chat.

There are a few theories on how the calculation of an item's level is done. One theory is that the item level is a number derived from a formula which calculates how much an item's stats are worth. It takes into account the fact that different perks have different worth, and also that gems in sockets increase the item's overall value. This can lead to a calculated item's ilvl that is typically very close to Blizzard's real level of the item.

However, this is not the only factor that can affect an item's ilvl since the level of the area the item is dropped into can alter the value of its stats, for example by adding an amount to its haste rating or crit rating. This means that items dropped at higher levels will have higher the ilvl than items from lower level instances.

Item Stats

Stats on an item are a significant component of what makes or breaks an item for players. The game uses them in various ways to encourage players to not limit themselves to a single weapon, and to encourage them to try out other weapons. The stat mods of weapons boost base stats. These stat mods are then boosted by a player's skill.

The upgrades to an item can increase the stats of an item. The upgrade costs are determined by the rarity of the item. A grey or white item for instance, will only be upgraded once and items with rare tiers can be upgraded several times at higher costs.

Affixes are a different method to alter the stats of an item. They are stat boosts which can be added by the player to an item. The affixes are used to provide items with extra damage, special capabilities (such as revitalizing dead or reducing cooling downs), or to differentiate them by putting a name on them.

All affixes can be re-rolled at the moment by selecting them in the upgrade menu pressing the green button. This will cost a specific amount of gold and other items. They can also be used as upgrade gauges, just like the other rerolling methods.

In addition to rerolling affixes, players can select which of the available stats to keep on an item when it is upgraded. The possible ranges of stats for an item are determined by the item level, but all items are guaranteed to have at minimum one stat within that range, unless it's an item that is unique or the result of a God roll from a boss in a raid.

Another thing that could be altered by introducing an option to upgrade the equipment without having to reroll the affixes, or selecting which stats to enhance. But as with base equipment, this would need to be carried out on a per-item basis and the interface for item comparison wouldn't show all possible stats that were gained or lost at the same time.

Item Luck

The Luck stat for a player adds up to increase the odds of finding items and the properties that are spawned from loot drops and the intensity of those properties. It doesn't, however directly impact damage or the ability to upgrade items. It merely gives the player a possibility to obtain better equipment in earlier waves and is thus more useful in the early game than later ones as most players prioritize greater weapon scaling and defense over raw damage gains.

Luck can also boost the likelihood of upgrading items at the Blacksmith. This is not to be confused with the Blacksmith’s overall chances of upgrading that increase with each level of the item. These can also be increased with the use of anti-materials such as a Scroll of Strength and a Jewel of Blessing.

Armor, shields and weapons can spawn or be crafted using the Luck property, which has the default value of 40. These items can then be upgraded with golden ingots, spined leather, or oak boards (depending on the material of the item) to grant a further +40 Luck, or to increase the luck of the item up to 140.

Certain items, such as the weapon with Hollow-infused components can also be outfitted to increase the damage dealt by any ability that causes damage by 5%. These items can be purchased in the shop or created using the right ingredients.

Item Failure

Upgrades to items can be a costly process and not all upgrades will succeed. However, there are some cash shop items which allow players to increase their chances of success or even prevent them from losing an item in the event that the upgrade fails.

The success rate of an upgrade is displayed in the Honing UI. The percentage is the chances of successfully upgrading the Best item upgrader, and can be enhanced by adding Additional Materials or Special Materials. There are limits to how much the success rates can be improved, and the overall chance of an upgrade failing can't exceed 100%.

The success of an item upgrades is also influenced by the Luck of that item. All items have an initial success rate of 25% and every item that has Luck increases the chance of success by 5percent.

It is important to note that upgrade items are rendered above the items in the inventory which means that enchantment glints and other effects can be masked by the overlays. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
