How to Replace an audi a5 Key fob G28 Engine Speed Sensor

In this video, Charles the humble mechanic demonstrates how to replace the G28 engine speed sensor. This sensor is located at the edge of transmission, above the flywheel gear. It sends a message to the ECU through the grey wire T55/49 and then to the tachometer on the instrument cluster.

It is located on the outside of the transmission above the flywheel ring gear G28 Engine Speed Sensor Replace sends a signal to ECU pin T55/49 using a grey wire. The ECU uses this information to control boost and fuel. It also sends an alert to the G5 Tachometer within the instrument cluster.

The sensor serves as a reference to correlate with the G40 Camshaft Position Sensor. The ecu must know when the crankshaft reached TDC, and the location of the camshaft in order to activate the spark and injectors.

If this sensor fails, the ECU will display an error code P00160. This means that the Crank Shaft is not in alignment with the Intake Camshaft. It could also indicate the possibility of a chain stretch or jumped chain link in the upper chain. The code won't appear without the additional information supplied by other sensors (G4 or G40).

Testing is a bit tricky because there are two pins for the connector and they have different functions however the best way to test it is to measure resistance between the sensor and the ECU. When the sensor is fully functional, it should read about 1000 ohms. Examine for signs of coolant, or oil in the connector bay if there are problems with this part.

2. Injectors

Yesterday, as i was accelerating off the highway paytoll at a high speed, i noticed a huge decrease in power. It was like the engine was running out of gas. Or, replacement Key for audi key copy a4 (Imoodle.win) my injectors weren't firing. Today, i pulled out the spark plugs, 3 were soaked with gazoline and the 4th one was dry. I put tissue over each hole in the injector and when i start the engine without sparks, the 3 that have gazoline pop right out. The fourth one remains closed. I tested the ground connection of ECU pins 14,30, and 48/55. I found zero ohm. I assume that the problem is elsewhere.

I also tried to reset the PID without success. The car will start when the G28 is unplugged, and it works fine when the G28 connected. However the intermittent misfire issue persists at higher RPM. The coolant temperature sensor (G62) shows the wrong temperature value of -49c even when i unplug it. I also noticed that the oil gauge in the cockpit shows 2 bars when the actual pressure is 0.

I don't know what to do. I believe that I've ruled everything else out. I'm worried that i might have missed something. If anyone has suggestions, please chime in! TIA!

3. Fuel Pump

The fuel pump on the g28 is activated by a signal sent by the RPM sensor. The GM-style transmitter is identical to the G4 and both are used in the 80, 100, 200, UrS and RS2 cars so you can easily find one at a salvage yard or in a local parts store. Testing them is easy to do - just put your DMM in resistance mode and take measurements between pins 1 (with the bump on the connector's side up) and 2 (2nd from left on the black connector's side). They must be infinite ohms.

4. ECU

Our 20vt turbo (3B AAN, ABY and ADU) engines have an ECU that has to be aware of the speed and position of the crankshaft to make decisions about timing of the fuel injector, for example. It utilizes a Crank Position Sensor G4 and an Engine Speed Sensor G28 to accomplish this. If either of these go bad you will get codes on the diagnostic scanner which can lead to engine shutdown.

The signs of a malfunctioning G28 sensor include an inaccurate rev counter in the gearbox the gears are shifting faster than normal and/or misfiring when you're in gear. It is likely that the sensor is failing and requires to be replaced if you notice any of these symptoms. The good news is they are quite affordable and easily accessible particularly in the case of the Bosch sensor, which is what we have. Alternatively, the GM version of this unit is also a great option.

5. Tachometer

A malfunctioning engine sensor can cause a number of problems in your car. It is a crucial part of the audi car key case's transmission as it sends information to the ECU about how fast or slow the vehicle's crankshaft is spinning. This sensor can cause the transmission to fail and other car components to be affected.

The G5 engine sensor is located at the outskirts of the transmission, just above the flywheel ring. It transmits a signal via gray wire to ECU pin T55/49. The ECU uses this signal to regulate the flow of fuel and boost and also timig. It also sends it to the G5 Tachometer located in the instrument cluster. You can check the sensor for any failure by checking the continuity between it and the tachometer, between the ECU pin T55/49 and the instrument cluster connection on pin T6a/1 (trace [79trace [79]) as well as between T6a/1, and the instrument cluster pin T26a/12. You should observe around 1000 ohms of resistance between these two points. This part is common across the audi tt replacement key 80-100-200-RS2 series, starting beginning with the 1985 MC and up to the 1997 UrS AN and the 1995 RS2 DU So, you may find them in wrecking yards.
